MOVES FITNESS CREATOR RETURNS TO CHINNOR

CHINNOR

Olympian Cindy Gilbert, whose desire to bring choreographed aerobics movement into personal fitness resulted in the formation of Moves Fitness, returns to Chinnor on Monday, 1 October to present a special programme with instructor Jessie MacIver and a gift to registrar Sue Hester. The class will take place at 7 p.m. at Chinnor Church Hall, behind the Village Centre.

Gilbert, who high-jumped as a young teenager in the 1972 Olympics, will co-facilitate a Moves Fitness class with MacIver as part of a month-long tour of England. For more than a quarter century, Moves Fitness has been a hit for thousands of participants throughout the country.

“It will be my second anniversary teaching Moves Fitness classes, and to have Cindy come and visit us, and teach a routine, will make the evening even more special and fun for the participants,” MacIver said. “Also, in honor of Sue Hester, we’ll be presenting celebratory cakes for all who attend.”

“Jessie MacIver is the kind of Moves Fitness instructor that makes you feel at home in her class,” Gilbert said. “Her caring, kind, professional nature has made her a favourite among her students. If you have ever found exercise classes intimidating, you’ll find the opposite in Jessie’s classes.”

Moves Fitness provides steady aerobic fitness for those more interested in fun exercise and overall toning than high athletic performance. Its uniqueness lies in the specific choreography of the exercises and movements, creating a rhythm and energy that reduces injury while creating great fun for participants of all ages.

Since its inception in 1980, Moves Fitness has grown to include 150 teachers and more than 5,000 students. “Moves Fitness is all about bringing the joy of getting fit into an exercise class,” Gilbert said. “You can’t get fit unless you go to class and you won’t go to class unless if it fun, rewarding, effective and makes you happy. Moves Fitness is all of these on one easy, 50-minute class.”

MacIver took one such class, and became so enamored with the concept of Moves Fitness that she quickly studied and prepared herself to become an instructor.
“I was looking on the Internet for something new and came across the Moves Fitness website,” she recalled. “I went along almost unaware of what I was getting into but enjoyed learning about anatomy, physiology, first aid and, most of all, meeting the other teachers taking part in the training classes and moving to music! I then started teaching the children at my school as a lunchtime club, then staff after school and eventually children, staff and parents. I then started my first ‘proper’ class in Chinnor.

“Moves Fitness is a fantastic reason to leave the house! It gives you a real buzz being in the company of others, listening to music and being part of a family—not to mention the benefit to your health with all that seratonin!” she added.
