MOVES FITNESS CREATOR TO VISIT CLASSES, HONOR JAN VINCENT
CAMBRIDGE
Olympian Cindy Gilbert, whose desire to bring choreographed aerobics movement into personal fitness
resulted in the formation of Moves Fitness, will visit on Wednesday, 3 October to co-teach classes
with instructor Jan Vincent and present her a prestigious Moves Fitness Master Pin.
The classes will take place at 10 a.m. at Chesterton Methodist Church, Green End Road in
Cambridge; and 7:30 p.m. at Ditton Lodge Primary School, St. John’s Ave. in Newmarket.
Gilbert, who high-jumped as a young teenager in the 1972 Olympics, will lead select routines
in the Moves Fitness classes with Vincent as part of a month-long tour of England.
For more than a quarter century, Moves Fitness has been a hit for thousands of participants throughout
the country.
Vincent has been a major part of that movement, drawing in many hundreds of students during her
13 years of teaching in Cambridge and Newmarket.
Jan Vincent is the most honoured fitness instructor in Moves Fitness history,” Gilbert said.
“She has been named the Top Moves Fitness teacher for the last five consecutive years. She is the
perfect example of an outstanding group exercise leader. She is fun, professional, entertaining,
educational and caring. You will never find a better fitness instructor anywhere.”
Moves Fitness provides steady aerobic fitness for those more interested in fun exercise and overall
toning than high athletic performance. Its uniqueness lies in the specific choreography of the
exercises and movements, creating a rhythm and energy that reduces injury while creating great fun
for participants of all ages.
Since its inception in 1980, Moves Fitness has grown to include 150 teachers and more than 5,000
students.
“Moves Fitness is all about bringing the joy of getting fit into an exercise class,” Gilbert said.
“You can’t get fit unless you go to class and you won’t go to class unless it is fun, rewarding,
effective and makes you happy. Moves Fitness is all of these on one easy, 50-minute class.”
Like many others, Vincent started with Moves Fitness as a student. Once she became an instructor,
she says, her life changed—as did those of her students.
“I went to a local class in my village and loved it so much. It was so different to any other
class I had been to,” she recalled. “This was fun! After about two years of being a student,
Penny, my instructor asked if anyone would like to train up. I thought about it, but didn't think
I was either fit enough, had the right shape body or maybe had what it would take.
Penny assured me all would be well, and it was.
“I have trained six other girls to teach since then, which is very rewarding.
Teaching Moves give one so much satisfaction and enjoyment. It's lovely to see very, perhaps,
shy and worried students start class, and then a few weeks later they are really enjoying the
activity and camaraderie.”
Vincent and Gilbert will also be training new teachers in the Cambridge area on 14 October.
Those interested in becoming Moves Fitness should contact Vincent to register for the training.
