MOVES FITNESS CREATOR RETURNS TO BRISTOL TO HONOR TEACHER
BRISTOL
Olympian Cindy Gilbert, whose desire to bring choreographed aerobic movement into personal
fitness resulted in the formation of Moves Fitness, returns to Bristol on 26 September to present
a special programme and a prestigious Moves Fitness Master Pin to Jane Rooth.
The event will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church Hall, The Drive, off Henleaze
Road (B4056). Plenty of parking is available.
“I am delighted that Cindy will be here, on her first visit to Bristol.
This in itself should make it a special occasion,” Rooth said.
“The class will celebrate not only Cindy’s presence here, but also our tenth anniversary.
It is lovely that many of the people who came to the first class ten years ago are still attending.
“I loved Moves Fitness from the first time I went to a class but never intended to teach it,
but when the only Moves teacher in this part of Bristol moved away, I realized I had a choice—either
to train to teach it myself or give it up.
So I did the training workshops and it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
It keeps me and the people who come to the class fit in a way that is always good fun,” she added.
Gilbert, who high-jumped as a young teenager in the 1972 Olympics, will co-facilitate the
Moves Fitness class with Rooth as part of a month-long tour of England.
For more than a quarter century, Moves Fitness has been a hit for thousands of participants
throughout the country.
“Moves Fitness is all about bringing the joy of getting fit into an exercise class,” Gilbert said.
“You can’t get fit unless you go to class and you won’t go to class unless it is fun, rewarding,
effective and makes you happy. Moves Fitness is all of these on one easy, 50-minute class.”
Moves Fitness provides steady aerobic fitness for those more interested in fun exercise and
overall toning than high athletic performance. Its uniqueness lies in the specific choreography
of the exercises and movements, creating a rhythm and energy that reduces injury while creating
great fun for participants of all ages.
Since its inception in 1980, Moves Fitness has grown to include 150 teachers and more than 5,000
students.
The special programme honouring Rooth will include dance and fitness routines covering Rooth’s
ten years with Moves Fitness, a chance to discuss health and fitness issues with Cindy Gilbert,
presentation of the Master Pin, and routines that feature input from regular attendees.
The classes are open to interested members of the public, as well as regular participants.
“It provides exercise that is wonderful whatever your level of fitness, and whatever your age,”
Rooth said. “Moves is a friendly and very safe exercise system— come and give it a try.
Or perhaps you too would like to become a teacher. We could do with a few more classes in Bristol.”
