MOVES FITNESS FOUNDER JOINS INSTRUCTOR DONNA NASH IN HILINGDON FUNDRAISER 30 JANUARY

Hillingdon

Olympian Cindy Gilbert, whose desire to bring choreographed aerobics movement and an emphasis on fun into personal fitness revolutionised women’s fitness in England, will visit Hillingdon on Wednesday, 30 January at the Moves Fitness session conducted by Donna Nash.

The special class will begin at 7:45 p.m. at the Hillingdon Community Association’s Walter Pomeroy Hall, Royal Lane near Hillingdon Hospital. Refreshments will be available after the class. New Moves Fitness enthusiasts are invited to attend, along with regulars.

Continuing a time-honoured Moves Fitness tradition for special sessions, profits from the special class will benefit The Pediatric Trust Fund of the Hillingdon Hospital. Over the years, Donna Nash’s classes have raised more than £3,000 for charities, particularly Children In Need.

Cindy founded Moves Fitness in 1981, combining her athletic and educational backgrounds with a love for fitness and movement. Many thousands of women have since taken Moves Fitness classes and benefited from its community appeal, among them Donna Nash.

“I first discovered Moves Fitness when I moved into Uxbridge in 1998 and attended the class across the road from where I now teach,” said Donna. “It was so enjoyable with such a friendly atmosphere that it wasn’t too long before I picked up the ‘moves’ and was indeed so moved that I trained to become a teacher myself in 2003.”

Cindy, the youngest member of the 1972 U.S. Summer Olympic team before moving to England to start Moves Fitness, will co-facilitate the Moves Fitness class with Donna. “The class will feature new routines blended with old favourites and fun tunes designed to raise a smile as well as the heart rate,” Donna said.

“Moves Fitness is all about bringing the joy of getting fit into an exercise class,” Cindy said. “You can’t get fit unless you go to class and you won’t go to class unless it is fun, rewarding, effective and makes you happy. Moves Fitness is all of these on one easy, 50-minute class.”

Moves Fitness provides steady aerobic fitness for those more interested in fun exercise and overall toning than high athletic performance. Its uniqueness lies in the specific choreography of the exercises and movements, creating a rhythm and energy that reduces injury while creating great fun for participants of all ages. Since its inception in 1980, Moves Fitness has grown to include 150 teachers and more than 5,000 students.

“I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and getting the chance to personally thank people for helping to make Moves Fitness such an important and fun fitness programme over the past quarter-century,” Cindy said.
