MOVES FITNESS FOUNDER JOINS MOTHER-DAUGHTER TEACHING TEAM IN SHEERWATER FUNDRAISER 23 JANUARY
SHEERWATER
Olympian Cindy Gilbert, whose desire to bring choreographed aerobics movement and fun into personal fitness revolutionized women’s fitness in England, will visit Sheerwater on Wednesday, 23 January at a special Moves Fitness fund-raising class conducted by Cheryl Clements, with the assistance of her mother, Valerie Lubbock— also a Moves Fitness teacher.
The special class will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Michael’s Church Hall, Dartmouth Avenue in Sheerwater. Proceeds from the class will benefit the St. Helier Association for Kidney Patients (SHAK). New enthusiasts are welcomed, along with Moves Fitness regulars. The class will consist of the latest Moves Fitness routines and refreshments will be provided afterwards.
Cindy founded Moves Fitness in 1981, combining her athletic and educational background with a love for fitness and movement. Many thousands of women have since taken Moves Fitness classes and benefited from its community appeal, among them Cheryl Clements — leading to a unique twist in Moves Fitness history.
“I was talked into attending a new Moves Fitness class with my mother over 18 years ago. After just one session, we were both hooked!” Cheryl said. “It was a couple years later that I began to think, ‘I could do that,’ and before I knew it, I was teaching. In fact, it was an honour to help my mother subsequently apply to become a teacher, and she has been teaching Moves Fitness to Seniors for nine years now. We’re the mother-daughter team at Moves Fitness.”
“Moves Fitness is all about bringing the joy of getting fit into an exercise class,” Cindy said. “You can’t get fit unless you go to class and you won’t go to class unless it is fun, rewarding, effective and makes you happy. Moves Fitness is all of these on one easy, 50-minute class.”
Added Cheryl, “People who come to Moves Fitness say the programme is like no other. The music is great, and they see it as a great social occasion. A number of friendships have formed just from people hooking up in class. It’s one of the pleasures of being an instructor—you facilitate friendships as well as fitness, fun and laughter!”
Moves Fitness provides steady aerobic fitness for those more interested in fun exercise and overall toning than high athletic performance. Its uniqueness lies in the specific choreography of the exercises and movements, creating a rhythm and energy that reduces injury while creating great fun for participants of all ages. Since its inception in 1980, Moves Fitness has grown to include 150 teachers and more than 5,000 students.
