POTTERS BAR MOVES FITNESS INSTRUCTOR HONOURED FOR 20 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

POTTERS BAR, HERTFORDSHIRE

Angie Phillips of Potters Bar was presented with a prestigious Master Teaching Pin Monday night by surprise visitor, Moves Fitness founder Cindy Gilbert, in honour of her 20-year commitment to fitness and exercise.

“In our nearly three-decade history, we’ve had two previous women surpass 20 years as Moves Fitness teachers,” Cindy said. “This is an extremely exclusive group that Angie has joined. Her teaching skills are exceptional, and her service to the health of the community is something that you see by how vibrant, conditioned and healthy so many local women are.”

“I’ve loved teaching for these past 20 years, and I intend to teach for another 20,” Angie said. “There are lots of people who need to mix fun and fitness together. That’s why I’m here. There is always space in class for one more.”

Angie was honoured during her regular Monday night class in Potters Bar, which was attended by 40 Moves Fitness enthusiasts. She treated her students to a combination of old routines and new from Moves Fitness’ repertoire of exercises set to music. Her students range in age from teenagers to women in their 70s.

“Angie provides a group exercise to music class that is so much fun, I’ve been coming for 20 years. I came once and I was hooked for life,” said Paula Goodenough, 40, of Potters Bar.

Like many Moves Fitness teachers, Angie attended a sponsored workout at Mind in Crystal Palace in 1987 out of curiosity—and became hooked on the combination of conditioning, music, fun and community Moves Fitness provides. “There were various teachers leading the sessions each hour,” she recalls, “but Cindy teaching Moves Fitness was by far the most original, enjoyable and most fun of them all—so much so that I decided there and then to sign up for the training workshop to become an instructor myself.”

After being certified in January 1988, Angie taught her first class in a local Church Hall in Potters Bar — where she had learned ballet and tap dancing as a child. The class drew 25 people; Angie had found her calling.

Angie’s classes take place on Monday Evenings (except Bank Holidays), from 7.30 to 8.30 pm at St. Mary´s Church Hall, The Walk, Potters Bar, Herts, EN6 1QQ. The first session is free.
