Cindy Gilbert
Moves Fitness choreographer and founder Cindy Gilbert began what would be her career in exercise and fitness when she
competed in the 1972 Olympic Games at the age of 15. Raised in
Carlsbad, California, she spent a decade competing in international
athletics and travelling the world, training under the great coaches
of the United States, Germany, Canada and England. Strongly influenced
by Judi Sheppard Missett, the founder of Jazzercise, she also
fell in love with exercise to music. Cindy continued her education
at the University of California at Los Angeles, where she took
a degree in Kinesiology, the science of human movement. In 1991
she received her Master's degree in Exercise Physiology at San
Diego State University under the guidance of world renowned sports
scientist, Dr. Peter Francis.
In 1980, following her work on the Warner Brothers film "Personal
Best", she came to the United Kingdom to train with Olympic champion
Daley Thompson. There she met Pauline Sanderson (now Bexon) and
founded Moves Fitness. The public response was overwhelming. Drawing
on her background and education, Cindy developed a method of training
which helps participants to focus on the joy of movement rather
than the drudgery of "keeping fit".
Her affiliations with the professional organisations, The Exercise
Association, The Aerobic Association of Great Britain and Fitness
Professionals in the UK and IDEA, ACE, AFAA and ACSM in the USA,
reflects her role as a leader in the dance exercise field. In
addition to her degrees, Cindy is certified by the American College
of Sports Medicine, The Aerobics and Fitness Association of America
and received Gold Certifications from IDEA/ACE. Cindy was also
selected as the first Nike Fitness Athlete in the UK.
Cindy currently makes her home in Carlsbad, California and Woking,
Surrey. She is married to Russ Snow, a world-class fast pitch
softball player who has been the National Fast Pitch Softball
Coach for Great Britain and who played on the American Softball
Association class A national champion team in 2002. In 1995 their
son, Scott, was born followed by their daughter, Alana, in 1999.
